US Involvement in Japan

Pearl Harbor

The United States naval base, Pearl Harbor was bombed by the Japanese. This started the war between the United States and Japan.

Atomic Bomb

The United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which caused devastation and many causalities. This was the end of World War II after people saw how much damage nuclear weapons could cause.

Post-War

The Allied forces gained control of Japan and attempted to reconstruct Japan. "By the end of 1945, approximately 350,000 US servicemen were in Japan working on wade variety of projects."

Japan had a large overall change after the war. There was democratic, educational, and economic reform and eventually demilitarization. The Treaty of Sanfransico allowed Japan to take their control back in 1952 and now the US and Japan have a close relationship.

Cooperation

The Japanese government has invited 47,000 military servicemen from the US. The US helped Japan when they became involved in the Cold War. Now Japan has a very strong economy.
